Iris Brember

'Untitled' from series 'Photographs'

Course: BA , University of Westminster

'I am fascinated by photography as a tool for collecting and keeping things.’

Initially based on Brember’s own family and their snapshots and stories, the series Photographs explores the role that the medium plays in day-to-day lives, in the personal and the domestic. By presenting the backs of photographs, frames or envelopes, this body of work emphasises the material presence of these objects, while simultaneously highlighting the absence of the subject. Brember’s work raises awareness that these photographs and albums are themselves becoming a thing of the past.
